Moving forward into a new decade
As I write this column I realize I have lived through four decades - okay almost five. A new decade presents a sense of hope and a surge of positive energy to move forward - and that is what this issue of MOST is about.
While current world events continue to weigh heavy on our minds, events like the 2010 Winter Olympics give us renewed hope and inspiration. Our cover story on page 22 is as inspiring as it is timely. An interview with Kathy Doherty-Masters reveals her determination and perseverance to fulfill a dream of carrying an Olympic torch and how her father, Pat Doherty, influenced her to pursue a career teaching and promoting active living in this community.
Turning the page on a decade deserves a celebration. If you have a milestone birthday coming up, turn to page 14 and find out what three women did to mark their special occasion.
Does the mid-winter blahs have its grip on you? Our menu on page 32 will brighten your mood and your next dinner party. Susan Brockhus- Strickler shares a delicious Mediterranean-themed dinner for six.
If you're looking to shed some winter pounds, our health section in this issue covers the business of weight loss. On page 31 Shelly Schlueter researched some area diet centres and shares her pros and cons on each.
Our Fabulous Women Over 40 Model Search was a complete success. Thank you to the 135 women who entered the contest. It was a difficult task choosing our top ten. After going through each entry it became clear that women over 40 know what they want and aren't afraid to go after it.
One of the entries received an honourable mention. Eighty year-old Peggy Coe is proof that life can be great at 40, 50 - even 80! Peggy has five grown children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. In the winter she enjoys volunteer work, yoga, walking and friends. During the spring and summer you will find Peggy in her huge flower garden. With such a full and active life - Peggy is an inspiration to us all.
By clicking on MOST Images on the home page you will see the before shots of each model search finalist as well as their day a Capri Salon and Spa where they recieved a complete makeover. Be sure to attend the fashion shows at The Total Woman Show on February 13 and 14 at Bingeman Park Conference Centre to see how these women transformed from everyday to runway gorgeous! The winner will be announced at the fashion show on Sunday February 14.
I hope you enjoy this issue of MOST and look forward to seeing you at The Total Woman Show.
Until next time
