Time to Shine

It’s that time of year again to attend special events, decorate, shop and entertain family and friends. Among all the things we do to prepare for the holidays, taking time for ourselves is often last on our list. Our features and stories in this issue will hopefully inspire you to shine  in your own light. Whether it’s that little piece of bling that brings your holiday dress to the next level or a fitness class you have been contemplating to try, we’ve got it covered.
Dressing for special holiday events doesn't have to be daunting. Instead, take the
opportunity to add a little sparkle to your holiday outfit . We are bringing on the bling this season –  check out our fabulous finds on page 30.
Who wouldn’t want to host the most ultimate holiday party? Just for fun we decided to create a party planning fantasy. Realistically, a party of this magnitude may not be something everyone can do, but hopefully you will be able to pick out bits and pieces throughout the story on page 22 to help with your own party planning. It’s my turn to host our family Christmas this year and thanks to the ultimate party-planning story
I have a few tricks up my sleeve. If anyone in my family is reading this – lower your
expectations –  after all, it’s a party planning fantasy.
On page 18 Chef Michael Magda of Liaison College shares some amazing appetizer recipes. And on page 28, Trisha Johnston offers wonderful serving ideas for entertaining this season. If you are looking for a wonderful way to the sweet-tooth lover’s heart on your list, try the delicious holiday cookie recipes on page 16.
I can’t think of a better time of year than the holidays to celebrate and recognize women who have contributed to our community. Whether enriching the community through arts and culture, advocating for social change, mentoring, or sharing a lifetime of wisdom, their story begins on page 11.
We continue to grow our BALANCE section by offering expert advice on how to stay healthy and strong. Our Body Parts feature on page 36 has Nancy Silcox sharing her story about being diagnosed and treated for Wet Macular Degeneration.
With all the holiday parties ahead, a little ZUMBA wouldn’t hurt. Get inspired to sign up for a
ZUMBA class by reading the review on page 42. On page 40, Rahima Hirja, ND, of Sage Naturopathic clinic offers body cleansing and detox tips for beginners .
