Spring and summer means food, fashion, and fun

Spring is my favourite time of year. It brings with it warmer temperatures, longer days and shorter nights. But what’s more exciting for this season are fabulous fashions in fresh, vibrant colours and styles. Style expert Audrey Wilson sourced out some exciting new spring/summer fashions from area retailers. Maureen Logel is our cover model and winner of the Fabulous Over 40 Model Search. Wearing a gorgeous combination of pretty pastel prints from BIBA boutique, Maureen sets the stage for the terrific spring and summer fashions beginning on page 20.
As the winner of the model search, Maureen received a number of great prizes including a $2,000 shopping spree at Spanner and a Style You Fabulous Day from Gemini Models. Her day began with Brentwood Livery Limousine whisking her away for a day of pampering at Capri Salon and Spa, lunch at Wildcraft and shopping at Spanner. The day ended with the MOST fashion shoot at a Decora Model Home in Huron Village in Kitchener.

The Total Woman Show took place this past February at Bingemans. Over the course of the weekend, visitors to the MOST booth shared positive and constructive feedback. We found out that while we are successfully publishing interesting stories about women over 40, there is another interesting growing segment of this demographic – women of diversity. In this issue our story on page 12 tells of women from various ethnic backgrounds that have created a partnership to support their individual culture within their local and global community.

Our inspiring woman for this issue is Mary D’Alton. On page 24 read about D’Alton’s 27-year career in the hospitality industry and the numerous awards she has received over the years including a Governor General’s Medal for Community Service.

Food connects us to each other and to the world around us. There is something special about breaking bread with friends and family and preparing a dish that can take you thousands of miles away in your mind. Ethnic Flavour is a new page that will appear in every issue of MOST. If you have a favourite recipe you would like to share please send it to food@mostwaterlooregion.com. You could be invited to bring your culinary creation to a photo shoot and have it published in the next issue along with a photo of yourself. On page 51, Stephanie Wang of Waterloo shares two delicious Asian inspired recipes for you to try.

Our Fabulous Over 40 Model Search contest was a complete success, due to the hard work and dedication of the top ten finalists, the judges, the staff at Gemini Models, Capri Salon and Spa and  the Total Woman Show. It was amazing to experience the behind-the-scene production of a fashion show. I was fortunate to get to know a group of people I otherwise may never have crossed paths with. One of them was Kevin Coupal, owner of Capri Salon and Spa. Coupal’s involvement in the contest went beyond being one of the judges, he showed his support to the contestants and truly admired them for stepping out of their comfort zone and trying something new. Sadly, a few weeks after the fashion show, Kevin passed away suddenly. On page 44 we remember him.

Until next time
Christine
